AVIATION/ CREW SQUAWKS HIJACK IN ERROR
The crew onboard a KINGFISHER AIRLINES A330 accidently set off alarm thru-out India on Tuesday, when they sounded the alert that they were being hijacked. Kingfisher Flight 72 was on International Service from Hong Kong to Mumbai, India, with 151 passengers and 13 crew members onboard, when the incident took place. According to media reports, Flight 72 was about 100 miles from Mumbai when the transponder code for unlawful interference, or hijack, was squawked by the aircraft. The Mumbai Airport went on full alert. Within minutes, the crew recognized their error. They stated that they were having intermittent radio problems and wanted to squawk loss comm to Mumbai, when they accidently squawked the unlawful interference alert. The Airport stood down from the emergency, and Flight 72 landed without incident about 85 minutes after the incident began.
