AVIATION/ COLOMBIAN MILITARY HUEY CRASHES NEAR SALINAS
At least 9 Colombian Police Officers were killed and 3 other were injured, when a Colombian Military (FUERZAS MILITARES DE COLOMBIA) Bell UH-1 Huey Helicopter, crashed into a mountainous area yesterday, just a few minutes after taking off from the town of Salinas, in the northeastern province of Casanare. Although some reports say the Huey suffered mechanical problems minutes after takeoff, the Colombia Military said the Helicopter flew into power lines and became entangled, before plunging to the ground. Military officials said 8 Police Officers died in the crash and a 9th died in hospital shortly after being admitted. The dead included both the Pilot and Co-Pilot. The 3 injured are in hospital in Yopal, their conditions were not made public. The Police Officers worked for Colombia's Anti-Narcotics division and were being transported from Salinas to the capital of Casanare, when the crash occurred. The Colombian Military and Police have opened a joint investigation.
