AVIATION/ ECUADORIAN NAVY CASA DAMAGED IN TAKEOFF FIRE
An AVIACION NAVAL ECUATORIANA Casa 235M-200 suffered substantial damage in a fire that occurred during takeoff, on Wednesday, June 8, at Manta Airport in Ecuador. None of the 6 crew members onboard was injured. During the takeoff roll on the runway 24, a fire developed in the right hand main landing gear. The crew rejected their takeoff and came to a stop on the runway, with the crew members evacuating the aircraffct. Emergency Services responded and extinguished the fire. Post flight inspection revealed damage to the right hand main gear and the right side of the fuselage. A military investigatory panel was formed to determine the cause of the fire.
