AVIATION/ TOURIST PLANE CRASHES IN THE VAL D'ANNIVIERS
All 5 people onboard a private twin engine Beechcraft Baron were killed when it crashed into a mountain in western Switzerland Friday. The plane took off on a tourist flight from Geneva, stopped in Lausanne and was en route to Sion when it crashed around 12:45pm. An army helicopter later spotted the wreckage on a razor sharp peak in the Val D'Anniviers at a height of 9800 feet. It is unclear why the Baron crashed, but investigators, according to cantonal police, surmise the plane was unable to clear the peak. Efforts continue today to recover the bodies and the wreckage from the mountain peak.
