WORLD NEWS/ IGOR BECOMES CAT 4 HURRICANE

Tropical Storm Igor has rapidly intensified over the last 24 hours and is now a large and powerful Category 4 Hurricane. Igor is currently located in the Central Atlantic Ocean and is about 1065 miles E of the Leeward Islands. The storm is moving to the W at 13mph. Winds are at 140mph, with gusts to 165mph. Additional strengthening is possible and is forecast over the coming days. By Tuesday, Igor is expected to begin to take a turn to the W/NW. It is still too soon if Hurricane Igor will threaten any land mass. As of today, Bermuda and the US East Coast could be possible areas the storm might impact. Elsewhere in the Atlantic, Tropical Depression 12 has formed near the Cape Verde Islands and should pass near or over the Islands tonight and early tomorrow. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Islands. TD12 is currently located about 150 miles from the Cape Verde Islands and is moving W at 13mph. Winds are at 35mph, with gusts to 45mph. The storm should take a turn to the W/NW tonight or early tomorrow. Additional strengthening is forecast and TD12 should become Tropical Storm Julia within the next 24 hours and a Hurricane by mid-week. It is too soon to tell if the storm will affect the Caribbean, Gulf of US.
