AVIATION/ VINTAGE WWII B25 CRASHES OUTSIDE OF PARIS
A vintage WWI North American B25 bomber was destroyed in a crash on Tuesday evening near Melun-Villaroche, just to the SE of Paris, France. According to media reports, the right engine caught fire shortly after takeoff on a private flgiht. The crew then shut off the fuel to that engine, but kept it running to exhaust the fuel in the lines as they searched for a suitable site to put aircraft down. The aircraft then entered into sharp turn and cut power lines, before crash landing with wheels up in a field in Moissy-Cramayel. The 2 Pilots onboard escaped the burning aircraft without injury. Local firefighters responded and extinguished the fire, however the aircraft was damaged beyond repair. The B25, pictured above, was flown by the American military in WWII. It has been owned by Soc. de Developpement et de Promotion de l'Aviation and been well known in France for its multiple Air Show appearances. French aviation officials are investigating the crash.
