TV/ SCOTTY MCCREERY WINS "IDOL": Scotty McCreery, the country singer with his deep, syrupy voice, was crowned Season 10's "American Idol" on Wednesday night's live finale. The 17 year old McCreery defeated fellow teenage country singer Lauren Alaina, continuing the trend of male victories throughout the show's last 4 seasons. A record 122.4 million votes were cast following Tuesday's performance show, bringing the total votes for Season 10 up to more than 730 million, the highest number of votes for any "Idol" season. "It's been a year now since Lauren and I tried out," McCreery told the crowd upon being crowned American Idol, adding that the pair, pictured, have stuck together. The North Carolina native clinched the Idol title with a performance of his debut single, "I Love You This Big," on Tuesday's show, in addition to renditions of Montgomery Gentry's "Gone" and George Strait's "Check Yes or No." The 2 hour "American Idol" finale was packed with all-star performances and duets, including Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, U2's Bono and the Edge, Lil Jon with the surviving members of TLC, Steven Tyler, Marc Anthony with Jennifer Lopez, Tony Bennett, Judas Priest and Tom Jones. TV/ US "X-FACTOR" DROPS CHERYL COLE AS JUDGE: British pop star Cheryl Cole has been dropped from the judging panel of the US version of "The X Factor," according to media reports today. Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who had been lined up to co-host, will replace her. Reports claimed that producers were concerned the singer's Newcastle accent was too strong for US audiences. Other reports cite a lack of chemistry with Paula Abdul, homesickness and the fact that she hasn't been up to the mark in the glamor stakes as reasons she may have been ditched. All parties involved, including "X-Factor" producers, refused comment. After months of speculation, it was confirmed earlier this month that Cole had landed the coveted spot on the judging panel alongside former American Idol judge Paula Abdul, Antonio LA Reid and Simon Cowell. Speaking to reporters outside the US studio on her 1st day in her new role, the Girls Aloud singer said she was not concerned about her accent. "Americans can always understand me," she said. The US job, which Cole called "a big commitment" meant she would not take part in this autumn's UK version of the show.
