FILM/ LOHAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO THEFT: Lindsay Lohan pleaded not guilty Wednesday to felony grand theft of a $2500 necklace, the most serious charge yet filed against the troubled starlet who has wrestled with drug and alcohol abuse for years. "You're in a different situation now that a felony has been filed," Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz told Lohan after she entered the plea through her attorney. "Everybody else has to follow the law. You're no different than anyone else. So please, don't push your luck". Saying it appeared Lohan had violated her probation in a 2007 drunken driving case, Schwartz set bail at $40,000 and warned that if she was accused of breaking the law while free, he would have her held without bail. Her next hearing is February 23. Lohan, 24, posted bail and was released about an hour after the hearing. She spoke little during the arraignment, except to acknowledge her name and that she understood the charge and possible consequences. Lohan could face up to 3 years in state prison if eventually convicted of stealing the necklace in January from a Venice Beach store. However, according to media reports today, say that there are "glaring in inconstancies" in the jewelers police report which may save the actress from going to jail. Although few details were released, if true, the inconsistancies may back up Lohan's claim that she had been lent the necklace.

TV/ DR PHIL UNDER FIRE FOR BAD ADVICE: Televisions Dr Phil McGraw has come under fire for a web posting he made on a parent seeking his advice. The parents wrote in, looking for help on how to handle their 5 year old son who likes playing with girl toys and girl clothes. Apparently Dr Phil has a problem with boys playing with girls toys. The controversy has just begun to simmer, with many parents posting online that is advice is impractical and downright "bad". On his blog, Dr Phil wrote: "There are developmental stages in kids and it is not unusual, particularly for young boys, to experiment and get stuck on certain stimulus items," says Dr. Phil. Particularly because the little boy has two older sisters, he says, it's not unusual. "This is not a precursor to your son being gay," explains Dr. Phil. He'll know that in time, but this is not an indication of his sexual orientation. Dr. Phil tells Robby that she has a job to do: "Direct your son in an unconfusing way. Don't buy him Barbie dolls or girl's clothes. You don't want to do things that seem to support the confusion at this stage of the game. Take the girl things away, and buy him boy toys." Most importantly, he tells Robby, "Support him in what he's doing, but not in the girl things".

THEATRE/ KATHY GRIFFIN BOOKS BROADWAY: Kathy Griffin is coming to Broadway, and she's made her intentions quite clear. Her one-woman show "Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony" will run at the Belasco Theater from March 11-13 and 15-19. "While I have been asked to understudy for "Spider-Man" and take over for Al Pacino when he has finished his run in "The Merchant of Venice," instead I have decided to take my very own show to Broadway," she joked in a statement. She’s won 2 Emmys and is nominated for a Grammy. And, according to Griffin, celebs should beware. Each performance will include, "fresh material due to the revolving door of pop culture, political and celebrity missteps." The Belasco last hosted "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown," which closed early last month. Neil LaBute's "Fat Pig: begins previews at the theater on April 12. It stars comedian Dane Cook.

THEATRE/ KUDOS FOR "CHILDREN'S HOUR": Keira Knightley's return to the West End has drawn respectable reviews, with one critic saying the British actress has now "won her theatrical spurs". Knightley is appearing with US "Mad Men" star Elisabeth Moss in "The Children's Hour," by Lillian Hellman. The 1934 play, which opened last night at the London Comedy Theatre, tells of teachers accused of having an illicit lesbian affair. The Telegraph said Knightley "displays confidence throughout before rising in the final act to dramatic heights that are shattering in their intensity". The critic also praised Moss for "a fascinatingly conflicted performance that is as subtle as it is strong". The Guardian said of  Knightley and Moss "prove as potent a combination on stage as at the box office". "Ian Rickson's atmospheric, slow-burning and ultimately enthralling production proves far more compelling that I expected," their 3 star review continued. Yet The Daily Mail expressed reservations, comparing Knightley to "one of those plucky amateur jockeys in the Grand National". "Miss Knightley tries," they wrote. "By God, she tries. She turns in a performance of which many a journeyman thesp would be proud. But is she a real leading lady? Is she a genuine stage star? Not quite". "The Children's Hour," which also features Oscar-winning actress Ellen Burstyn and veteran comedienne Carol Kane, has been filmed twice. According to London media, tickets for the show, which runs thru April 30, are next to "impossible" to get.
