AVIATION/ PC AIR INTRODUCES THE LADYBOYS

Thailand's newest Airline, PC AIR, has introduced 4 of its newly hired Flight Attendants to the press. The 4 are transsexuals, and the move by PC Air is a 1st for the aviation industry. Known as 'katoeys' or 'ladyboys' in Thailand, transgenders and transsexuals have greater visibility in the country than in many other nations, holding mainstream jobs in a variety of fields. The carrier said they originally planned only to hire male and female Flight Attendants. But, they changed their mind after receiving more than 100 job applications from transvestites and transsexuals. PC Air said that the qualifications for the ladyboy F/As were the same as for female F/As, with the additional provisos that they be like women in how they walk and talk, and have a feminine voice and the right attitude. 4 were chosen, along with 19 females and 7 males. The carrier said it may hire more transsexual F/As in the future since the Department of Civil Aviation has no objections. PC Air is set to begin operations in April and will initially fly to South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and China.
