AVIATION/ WASAYA BEECH VEERS OFF KASABONIKA RUNWAY
2 passengers suffered minor injuries when a WASAYA AIRWAYS Beech 1900D went off the runway upon landing in Kasabonika, ON, Canada, on Wednesday, February 9. Wasaya Flight 937 was on Domestic Service from Wunnummin Lake, ON, to Kasabonika, ON, with 13 passengers and 2 crew members onboard. Upon landing at 12:00pm on runway 03 at Kasabonika, the Beech began to weathercock and then veered to the left, despite the crew applying the right hand wheel brake and increasing the right hand engine beta input. As the Beech continued to veer to the left, the crew applied full reverse and shut both engines down. The aircraft impacted a snow bank and came to rest in deep snow of about 10 feet, past the runway edge lights. The Captain then ordered an immediate evacuation of the Beech. A total of 7 passengers were examined by medical personnel, and 2 of those were treated for unspecified minor injuries. The Beech suffered substantial damages in the accident. In a statement, the Canadian TSB, which is investigating, said that winds were at 10 knots, with gusts to 18 knots, at the time Flight 937 landed. Runway conditions were reported as hardpacked snow with some icy patches. The TSB noted that there are no facilities to measure runway friction values or to radio them at the Kasabonika Airport
