AVIATION/ SHOVKOVIY SHLYAH AN12 VEERS OFF RUNWAY
None of the 7 crew members onboard a SHOVKOVIY SHLYAH AIRLINES Antonov AN12 were injured when the aircraft veered off runway during a rejected takeoff, yesterday, February 7, in Chernovtsy, Ukraine. After rolling down the runway for about 150 meters, the Antonov veered right off the runway 33, plowed thru a fence and came to a stop in soft ground. The 7 crew members onboard evacuated without injury. Although the Antonov sustained no visible damage, it has been removed from service for a full inspection. Officials did not speculate on a possible cause for the incident, however ground observers said that winds were gusting up to 30 knots at the time of the runway excursion. Ukraine's Ministry of Transport has opened an investigation.
