AVIATION/ ABC AIRWAYS CESSNA CRASHES IN BAHAMAS

All 8 people onboard an ABC AIRWAYS CHARTER Cessna 402 were killed yesterday, when the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Nassau in the Bahamas. The Cessna had departed Nassau at 12:30pm for a flight to the nearby island of San Salvador with 7 passengers and a Pilot onboard. According to media reports, shortly after lifting off, the plane's left hand engine caught fire and the aircraft then crashed into the shallow waters of Lake Killarney. 7 bodies were pulled from the lake. The 8th person, who was pulled from the lake with a broken neck, died a short time later at hospital. According to local police, all victims were Bahamian. The Prime Minister extended condolences to the families and friends of the victims adding that all relevant government agencies are lending their assistance and a thorough investigation of the crash will be conducted.
