AVIATION/ POLISH TU154 WRECKAGE TO BE SHELTERED

The remains of the POLISH AIR FORCE Presidential Tupolev TU154 which crashed in Smolensk, Russia, on April 10, are to be covered by a shelter within the next 5 days. A fence around the wreckage as well as a shelter is to be built by October 10, which is when family members of the Smolensk victims are set to arrive at the site for a pilgrimage to commemorate the crash, which killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and 95 other Polish citizens. A spokesman for Smolensk Governor told Polish Radio that a tarpaulin shelter over the remains should be constructed by the date of the service. The spokesman also said that no one is allowed to enter the site of the crash and approach the plane wreckage until the shelter has been constructed. That announcement comes after a number of Polish journalists were recently detained by the Russian military after allegedly trespassing into a military no-go zone. They have since been released. The journalists had gone to Smolensk to see whether anything was being done to protect the plane wreckage after a video released last month, screen shot above, had shown the TU154 wreckage unguarded despite Russian assurances to the contrary.
