WORLD NEWS/ TS NICOLE DUMPING HEAVY RAINS

Tropical Depression 16 has strengthened this morning and has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Nicole. The storm is dumping heavy rains on Jamaica, Cuba, the Cayman Islands, South Florida, and the western Bahamas. The center of Nicole is currently over Central Cuba and will move out into open waters this afternoon. The storm will then move over the Florida Straits this afternoon and then near or over sections of The Bahamas tonight. The storm is no longer forecast to move directly over Flordia, thus Tropical Storm Warnings have been dropped for the state. Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for the Cayman Islands, Cuba, and the Bahamas. TS Nicole is currently located 120 miles E/SE of Havana, Cuba, and is moving NE at 9mph. Winds are at 40mph, with gusts to 50mph. Nicole will continue to move NE over the next 24 hours and begin to pick up speed. Current forecasts suggest that she will remain off the US East Coast and be absorbed into an Extra Tropical Low tomorrow. Although the storm will remain off the Coast, heavy rains are forecast for Coastal areas, in particular Eastern North Carolina.
