WORLD NEWS/ IGOR MOVING TOWARDS BERMUDA
Powerful Hurricane Igor is moving W/NW at 6mph across the Atlantic on a track that could take the Category 4 storm toward Bermuda this coming weekend. Igor has weakened slightly over the last 24 hours and should weaken into a Category 3 Hurricane by the time it approaces Bermuda. Swells from Igor have begun affecting the Leeward Islands and will reach into Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands later tonight or early tomorrow. The swells could cause life-threatening surf and rip currents. Hurricane Igor is currently located 710 miles E of the Leeward Islands. Winds are at 135mph, with gusts to 160. Also in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Julia was upgraded to a Hurricane this morning, becoming the 5th hurricane of the season. Julia is located about 405 miles W/NW of the Cape Verde Islands and has maximum sustained winds at 85mph, with gusts to 105mph. Julia is moving to the W/NW at 9mph and is expected to pick up in forward motion over the next day. The storm is also forecast to begin a slow weakening trend on Thursday. As of now, it is not clear if Hurricane Julia will affect any land mass.
