US NEWS/ AMERICA PAUSES TO REMEMBER

9 years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Americans came together today in somber memorials and peace vigils to remember the nearly 3000 people died in the horrors of that sun wrapped Tuesday morning.
Services were held at Ground Zero in New York City, at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the site of where United Flight 93 went down. The anniversary was marked by a nation that is divided over the prospect of a mosque near ground zero and the role of Islam in society. The debate grew so divisive this year that President Obama appealed for Americans to "rekindle the spirit of unity" that swept the stunned nation after the attacks.
