FILM/ INDIAN GAY FILM FACES CENSORSHIP: "Dunno Y… Na Jaane Kyun," an Indian gay romance compared by critics to "Brokeback Mountain," risks being censored by the Indian authorities over gay sex scenes. In addition, the father of star Yuvraaj Parasher has told a newspaper that he is to fight in court to disown all ties to his son because of his role in the film. The film, directed by Sanjay Sharma, faces censors because of 2 gay kisses and a gay sex scene between stars Kapil Sharma and Yuvraaj Parasher. The film also faces censorship from the Indian film board because of the theme of homosexuality. Kapil Sharma said: "Why should the censors be scandalized if 2 men are kissing and making love? The ones in my film are very aesthetic. And so what if it's 2 men making love? Love is love regardless of gender." Meanwhile, the Bombay Times reported that that Yuvraaj Parasher, has been disowned by his family and thrown of of the family home in Agra because of his role in the film. His father said: "I feel what he has done is against the culture and tradition of our country and it challenges the purity of the relationship between a man and a woman. He kept us in the dark right from when he signed the film and told us that he is acting with a girl. When we heard about the poster, (pictured), and the things he has done in the film, we were shocked, hurt and humiliated. People will make fun of us and we won't be able to live peacefully ever again."He added that "his mother is totally devastated" and that no woman will consider marrying him after playing a gay man on-screen. Bollywood has rarely mentioned homosexuality in the past and even heterosexual kisses are still unusual. But since the Indian capital Delhi legalized homosexuality last year, homosexuality is very slowly becoming more accepted in culture. A recent film, "Dostana," showed 2 men pretending to be gay in order to win over a female love interest, but "Dunno Y . . . Na Jaane Kyun" is the 1st big release to tackle the issue of homosexuality seriously.

FILM/ JACKSON THREATENS "HOBBIT" SHUTDOWN: Film-maker Peter Jackson has warned that production on "The Hobbit" movies could cease over a pay wrangle with acting unions. "The Lord of the Rings" director, who is the films' executive producer, said it faced being shut down or moved from its location in his native New Zealand. In an open letter, Jackson said shifting the entire project to eastern Europe "could so easily happen". Unions urged actors over the weekend not to work on the films due to the dispute. A number of organizations based in the UK, Canada, Australia and the US have said the "The Hobbit" producers have refused to negotiate a deal with them. Jackson said the wrangle was a "grab for power" and "an attempt by the "Australian bully-boy" to exert influence over New Zealand's film industry. Jackson is expected to become the films' director after the departure of Guillermo del Toro due to concerns over delays, although a formal announcement has yet to be made. But the 2 movie project has not been given the financial go-ahead by Hollywood studios New Line and MGM. Work was expected to start earlier this year but is now scheduled for a 2011 start.
TV/ "SPARTACUS" FUTURE UP IN THE AIR: Although Starz has yet to decide how Andy Whitfield’s cancer relapse will impact the future of their hit show "Spartacus: Blood and Sand," the executive producer said in an interview that 1 of 2 things will likely happen: a new actor will be brought in to replace Whitfield, pictured, or the series will end. “The two main options are to close up shop or recast,” said Steven S DeKnight. “I want to talk to Andy and find out how he feels about the options. That’s obviously very important to us. We’re still absorbing what’s happened. I think it’s going to be a little while before we reach any conclusions.” DeKnight says his primary concern remains Whitfield, who bowed out of the show’s 2nd season after doctors advised him to resume “aggressive treatment” for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. “He’s a trooper,” marvels DeKnight. “He has a very positive outlook.” "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," a prequel to the series, will still air as scheduled in January 2011.
