AVIATION/ WIDEROE DASH IN LANDING MISHAP

No one onboard was injured this morning when a WIDEROE Dash 8-100 suffered a collapse of its right hand main landing gear in Sandnessjoen, Norway. Flight 701 was on Domestic Service from Bodo to Sandnessjoen, with 3 passengers and 4 crew members onboard. The right hand main landing gear collapsed as the Dash touched down at 5:57am, today. According to a statement from Wideroe, the Dash caught a gust of wind during the flare, which caused the aircraft to touch down hard and collapse the landing gear. The Airline went on to say that Sandnessjoen is notorious for downdrafts due to a nearby Mountain range, however the reported winds at the time of the incident were said to be normal. Wideroe also said that 1 of the Pilots onboard Flight 701 was a new hire and an instructor was in the observer's seat for the flight. Norway's Havarikommission has opened an investigation and dispatched a team to Sandnessjoen.
