WORLD NEWS/ NIGHTMARE NIGHT ON EUROSTAR TRAINS
Eurostar and cancelled all its services today, after more than 2000 people were trapped overnight inside the Channel Tunnel. According to media reports from Europe, 5 trains suffered electrical failure due to freezing conditions. Some trains were evacuated while other passengers were held in place, many without food and water. Passengers on 2 of the trains were taken out via service tunnels to car trains, while the passengers on the other 3 trains remained on board. All of the passengers were out of the tunnel by late morning today. The Eurostar chief executive, apologised to passengers who spent the night trapped in what he called "very unpleasant conditions" in the Channel Tunnel. He said the 5 trains, which were coming from Brussels and Paris, failed because of the "very, very cold temperatures" outside and the "warm, humid" conditions inside the tunnel. The operator of the Channel Tunnel, said the situation was "absolutely extraordinary and unprecedented".
