The Washington DC City Council has approved a bill today, to legalize gay marriage by the vote of 11 to 2. Before the bill goes to Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) for signing, it still must survive a 30-day congressional review period. To block the legislation, the Democratic-controlled House and Senate and President Obama would have to sign off on a disapproval resolution within 30 legislative days, which advocates say is not likely.
