ENTERTAINMENT NEWS


*MUSIC/ GAGA TOPS UK SINGLES CHART: Lady Gaga moves into the penthouse on the UK singles chart, as "Bad Romance" moves up 2 spots to #1. Last weeks #1, the Peter Kay "Children in Need Medley" falls to #2. "Let The Bass Kick In Miami Girl" by Chuckie & Lmfao is this weeks top debut, in at #10. Also of note is Mariah Carey's Christmas chestnut, "All I Want For Christmas Is You," at #19. The holiday song moves up 10 spots and logs its 43rd non consecutive week on the chart. On the album chart, Susan Boyle remains at #1 with her debut set, "I Dreamed A Dream". The album enjoys its 3rd week at the summit. Lady Gaga's "The Fame," nearing the 1 year mark on the chart, moves up 10 spots to #2. The album sales are being fueled by the success of "Bad Romance". In a rare event, there are no debuts in the top 20 of the album chart.


THEATRE/ "ENRON" BOOKS A VENUE: The Broadhurst Theatre will be the Broadway home for Lucy Prebble's "Enron," the acclaimed London theatrical account of a company's financial collapse. Previews will begin April 8, 2010, prior to an opening on April 27. Inspired by the real-life financial scandal of 2001, "Enron"  premiered this past summer in Chichester, and then moved for a 6 week run at the Royal Court Theatre in London, where it played through November 8, 2009. The play will transfer to West End's Noel Coward Theatre in January 2010. According to the producers, the synopsis of the show is: "Using music, dance and video, "Enron" explores one of the most infamous scandals in financial history, reviewing the tumultuous 1990s and casting a new light on the financial turmoil in which the world currently finds itself."





*THEATRE/ "ROYAL FAMILY" CLOSES TODAY: The Broadway revival of "The Royal Family" by George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber ends its scheduled run today at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The production had already been extended twice. "The Royal Family," the comic and sorrowful account of a Barrymore-like theatrical family, opened October 8, and was embraced by critics. By close, the production will have run 26 previews and 77 performances. The cast featured "Saturday Night Live" alum Ana Gasteyer (Kitty Dean), Tony Award winner John Glover (Herbert Dean) and Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee Rosemary Harris (Fanny Cavendish). According to press notes, the show synopsis is: "Follow a famous family of stage stars as they go about the drama of the day: choosing scripts, dashing off to performances, stealing kisses from handsome beaus. But what’s this business about the youngest diva wanting to quit the stage for domestic bliss? Never, darling!"
