ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

MUSIC/ POWTER NAMED TOP ONE HIT WONDER: Canadian singer-songwriter Daniel Powter has been named the decade's top one-hit wonder by Billboard magazine. Powter's single "Bad Day" spent 5 weeks at the top of the Billboard chart in 2006 and was also a big hit across Europe. Billboard describes a one-hit wonder as an act whose second single did not reach the top 25. It is based on acts from 2000 to 2007, as someone who released a single last year may just be taking a break. #2 on the list is Terror Squad for "Lean Back," #3 is Crazy Town with "Butterfly," MIMS is at #4 with "This Is Why I'm Hot" and #5 is D4L with Laffy Taffy. Powter's "Bad Day" was the most played song in the UK between 2002 and 2008, the Performing Rights Society said. "It's got one of those three or four-word lyrics that means something to everyone's everyday life," SonyBMG last year. "No-one wants a bad day, but everybody has one."

TV/ CBS CANCELS "ATWT": CBS is canceling the soap opera "As the World Turns" after more than a half-century on the air. The network said the final episode will air next September, in its 54th year. Daytime dramas have been in a long-term ratings decline, and CBS ended the daytime soap "Guiding Light" earlier this year. Through the years, actors Marisa Tomei, Meg Ryan, Parker Posey and James Earl Jones have appeared on the show. The cancellation will leave CBS with only 2 daytime dramas: "The Young and the Restless" and "Bold and Beautiful."

THEATRE/ "BURN" TO CLOSE: The Broadway dance extravaganza "Burn the Floor" will play its final performance at the Longacre Theatre January 10, 2010. The production had previously announced an extension through February 14, however sales have begun to drop. Mary Murphy of FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" will now join the cast December 22 and stay with the production through its closing. The company currently features Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Kym Johnson of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." In a statement, producers said: "On behalf of the entire "Burn the Floor" family, we want to thank Broadway for an amazing run and generous critical and popular reception. We are thrilled and proud to have broken the Longacre Theatre's box office record and are pleased to announce that the World Tour begins late February 2010, including 30 U.S. cities."
