ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

MUSIC/ BOYLE & KAY REMAIN UK #1s: There is no change this week at the top of the UK music charts, which means runner-up status for usual top of the chart contenders. On the album charts, Susan Boyle remains at #1 for 2nd week with her worldwide smash, "I Dreamed a Dream". Westlife has to settle for a #2 debut for their new album, "Where We Are," while Take That's "The Greatest Day: The Circus Live," comes in at #3. Both groups usually debut at #1, although Westlife suffers more, as their album is new, while Take That's album is a live album. Also new on the album chart is "Heroes" by Coldstream Guards Band at #13 and "My Christmas" by Andrea Bocelli in at #18. On the singles chart, Peter Kay's all star charity single, "Children in Need" remains at #1, while Rihanna zooms up to #2 with "Russian Roulette". New on the singles chart this week are Alicia Key's "Doesn't Mean Anything" in at #8 and Timbaland & Nellly Furtado's "Morning After Dark" in at #9.

THEATRE/ 3 RIALTO SHOWS SHUTTER TODAY: In a rather rare event, 3 shows close today on Broadway, 2 of which, both limited runs, did boffo box office. The 3rd show, which was originally scheduled to run into January, shutters early due to poor box office.

A STEADY RAIN: The biggest of the 3 is the limited run "A Steady Rain," which stars Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig. The show did about $1m in box office each week during its 12 week run. It was one of those "hard to get" tickets, that Broadway can be famours for. Upon closing, the 2 character police drama will have played 21 previews and 81 regular performances. The show was billed as: "A new American play that tells the story of 2 Chicago cops who are lifelong friends and their differing accounts of a few harrowing days that changed their lives forever." "A Steady Rain" played at the at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.

HAMLET: Another show with boffo box office, the Jude Law starrer "Hamlet," also shutters today at the Broadhurst Theatre. The show, which originated at London's Donmar and played the West End and Denmark, had recouped its investment by its 7th week on Broadway. By close, it will have played 72 performances and 25 previews. Law plays melancholy Prince Hamlet in Shakespeare's tragedy. The synopsis: Consumed with grief, Prince Hamlet determines to avenge his father's death with devastating consequences for his family and the kingdom.

OLEANNA: And as announced earlier this week, David Mamet's "Oleanna," the provocative college-set drama about a female student and her professor, closes at the Golden Theatre. The production will have played 15 previews and 65 performances. The play by Pulitzer Prize winner Mamet stars Julia Stiles (making her Broadway debut) and Bill Pullman. Unlike the 2 other shows closing today, "Oleanna" struggled to fill seats and usually played to a half empty theater.
