AVIATION/ QANTAS SAYS FAREWELL TO SAN FRANCISCO

Australia's QANTAS AIRWAYS ended its service to San Francisco yesterday with the final departure of a flight to Sydney last evening. The crew for the final flight was welcomed to the Airport with a special check-in, as pictured above, before preparing their aircraft for departure. Once passengers and crew were onboard, the 747 VH-QEF taxied for departure, pictured above, and then departed on the runway 28R. Controllers granted them a Bay Area tour as they climbed, allowing them to fly North over the Golden Gate Bridge, and then West over Downtown San Francisco, before heading out over the Pacific and on to Australia. ATC bid the crew farewell and said they wished to see them again in the future. Qantas said they ended service to San Francisco due to passenger loads, but many aviation analysts expect them to return in the future, perhaps after they begin to receive their Boeing 787 Dreamliner's that are on order. In place of San Francisco, Qantas is commencing 4x weekly return service to Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas.
