Passengers onboard JETSTAR Flight 525 told Australian media today that 2 men who got off a plane before takeoff, delaying it for nearly 2 hours at Sydney Airport last night, had told crew it was "going to go down". The passengers onboard the A320, which was due to depart Sydney Airport at 6.35pm for Melbourne, were left waiting in the plane on the tarmac with little idea of what was happening. "Everyone saw them leave," one passenger said about the men, who got off flight just after an announcement was made to the crew about the doors being locked. "When we started to taxi out they stopped the plane. There was an announcement and all they said was that there was a security issue. The Pilot said "Your safety is the most important to us". That's all he said at that time". But a Jetstar spokeswoman said "there was no security issue" and the men had left the plane because of "urgent family reasons". She said the crew followed the steps needed to get the men's bags off the plane, and it was delayed for 1 hour and 50 minutes at Sydney Airport. When asked whether the men had made the comment about the plane going down, the spokeswoman repeated that there had been "no security issue". But, one passenger said "this was the slackest response I've ever seen", adding that she was a frequent flyer who travelled in Asia, Europe and the United States. She said some of the flight crew told passengers what the men had said and it was common knowledge on the plane about 1 hour into the delay. She said the Flight Attendants on the flight did not deny the comment had been made when other passengers asked them about it. "All the crew did was search the 2 rows in front and behind of where the disembarked passengers sat, and took their luggage off. What was phenomenal was the lack of immediate decisive action. Had the threat been real we would have been toast. We should have be evacuated, and the plane searched, then luggage rescanned, and reboarded". Passengers who wanted to change their flight because of fears about security were reportedly told they would not be refunded the cost of their tickets. A passenger said up to 10 people then left the plane, which was almost full.
