TV/ OBAMA SURVIVES "THE VIEW": President Barack Obama was seen on "The View" this week, the 1st sitting President to appear on a daytime TV talk show. Depending on a persons political views, his street cred either took a major hit or went up a few points after responding to a series of serious, and silly, questions. Barbara Walters, interrupting her recovery from heart surgery to appear on the special episode, point-blank asked Obama why the US doesn’t get out of Afghanistan, while panelist Sherri Shepherd, discussing the Shirley Sherrod controversy, wanted to know if Obama thinks America is “still racist.” “I’ve got to admit that I don’t know who Snooki is,” the President said, laughing, after being asked by Joy Behar if the "Jersey Shore" firebrand should run for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. The conservative poster child of "The View," Elisabeth Hasselbeck, became more agressive in her questions as the hour went on. Hasselbeck fired her final and yippiest jab in response to Obama listing his accomplishments during the first half of his first term: health-insurance reform, stricter rules for credit-card companies regarding hidden fees, a tough financial regulatory reform law, avoidance of the next great depression, and a range of education reforms. As the President noted that more kids are going to college and studying math and science, Hasselbeck interjected,”Will they have jobs when they’re out of there?” To which Obama responded, “They’re gonna create these jobs.”
MUSIC/ ARE ELTON & RUSH BEST BUDDIES?: Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said this week that he and Elton John share the same anti-gay marriage views. Limbaugh said on Wednesday that he and the singer support civil unions but not marriage for gay couples. John and David Furnish, pictured left, are in a civil partnership. John was accused of selling out the gay community for performing at Limbaugh's wedding last month for a reported $1 million. Limbaugh, who has been accused of racism and homophobia, said: “Elton John is not married to David Furnish, and Elton John is not a supporter of gay marriage. Elton John is on the same page as I am, as is Obama on gay marriage. He's for civil unions, but he's not for marriage." This week, John branded stars who have refused to perform in Arizona "fuckwits". Acts such as Rage Against the Machine and Kanye West are boycotting the state over controversial new immigration laws. According to the Arizona Daily Star, John told a crowd in Tucson: "We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here. They are fuckwits Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what's the fuck with these people?" (SK COMMENT: Elton appears to be turning into a conservative fuck as he gets older. If he cared at all about the state of gay people in the US, or for that matter, the world, he would immediately have refuted Limbaugh's comments).
