AVIATION/ TAXI SLAMS INTO ARIK AIR BOEING 737

An ARIK AIR Boeing 737 is undergoing inspection today after a bizzare incident in Calabar, Nigeria. Arik Air Flight 506 was scheduled for Domestic Service from Calabar to Abuja, Nigeria, yesterday, March 31, when the incident took place. The 95 passengers had completed the process of boarding the 737 for departure, and were ready to close the doors, when a local taxi broke thru 2 security gates at the Airport at high speed. The taxi drove across the tarmac and right into and under the Arik Air 737, where it became wedged. The impact prompted the crew to evacuate the passengers. No one onboard Flight 506, nor the taxi driver, was injured in the incident. Security forces on the scene took the taxi driver into custody. Local media reports say that the taxi driver wanted to blow up the aircraft and punish the "sinners" onboard. The aircraft was removed from service after the incident and is undergoing inspection to determine if it was damaged in the impact.
