TV/ NBC CANCELS LENO: NBC announced today that it is canceling "The Jay Leno Show". The NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman said that Leno's 5 night a week, prime-time show, will end with the beginning of the Winter Olympics on February 12. NBC wants Leno to do an 11:35pm show each night, a return to his old time slot. He wants Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon's shows to shift back a half hour. NBC said that's not a done deal, but he hopes to have NBC's late-night lineup cleared up by the beginning of the Olympics. NBC said Leno's show performed well enough in the ratings for the networks, but it did not meet the needs of NBC's affiliates.
THEATRE/ "JERSEY BOYS" EXITS CHICAGO: The Chicago sit-down engagement of "Jersey Boys" closes today, after a run of over 2 years. The Broadway musical about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is closing Sunday after 951 performances. Like "Wicked," which also played for years in Chicago, "Jersey Boys" has been an unqualified success in the Windy City. (SK COMMENT: I saw the show here in Chicago, and its a "must see". The music evokes so many memories).
