AVIATION/ ISTANBUL RECORDS MULTIPLE BIRD STRIKES
Istanbul's Ataturk Airport recorded 6 bird strikes within 25 minutes on Sunday, January 10. Officials say that the Airport was "invaded" byh a flock of sea gulls. The 1st incident was recorded by LUFTHANSA Flight 3354, an A320 arriving from Munich, Germany. The aircraft was on final approach, when it went thru the flock of birds, suffering mulitiple strikes. The A320 was able to land without incident, and was then removed from service for a damage assessment. The 5 other bird strikes involved TURKISH AIRLINES Flight 573, arriving from Samsun, Turkey; AIR FRANCE Flight 2390 arriving from Paris, France; Turkish Airlines Flight 3354 arriving from Bodrum, Turkey; ATLAS JET Flight 19 arriving from Antalya, Turkey and Atlas Jet Flight 4023 arriving from Izmir, Turkey. Officials said that these 5 aircraft suffered no damages.
