AVIATION/ CAA 727 CRASH LANDS AT KINSHASA


A COMPAGNIE AFRICAINE D'AVIATION, aka CAA, Boeing 727-231F Super 27 suffered substantial damage during a crash landing at Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, early this morning. According to press reports, the crew declared an emergency shortly after departure to Kananga, DRC, with the crew reporting a hydraulics problem. The 727 came in for a landing in very heavy rain, with substantial standing water seen on the runway just prior to its touching down. Upon touchdown, the 727 began to hydroplane and then skidded past the tower before sliding off the runway and crashing into an unknown obstruction. Emergency Services were deployed and reportedly prevented a post incident fire from breaking out. It is not known how many crew members were onboard, however local media reported no injuries. Emergency Services reports that the 727 suffered substantial damages, with the landing gear sheared off, along with at least the right hand wing.
