AVATION/ ARKEFLY 767 DIVERTS OVER BOMB THREAT
An ARKEFLY Boeing 767, carrying 235 people from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, to Aruba, was forced to divert to Ireland yesterday, after an unruly Dutch passenger made false bomb threats during the flight. Flight 364 had departed Amsterdam with 224 passengers and 11 crew members onboard. The 767 was inflight about 200 miles from Shannon, Ireland, when the crew requested to divert over the unruly passenger. According to media reports, the 44 year old male passenger became agressive to cabin crew for unknown reasons and claimed that he had a bomb onboard. The 767 was diverted to Shannon, where they made an emergency landing about 40 minutes later. The 767 was then towed to a remote location for a complete search of the aircraft and its passengers. It was held there until after its scheduled landing time in Aruba, in case there was a timed device onboard. Irish media report that no explosives were found. Arkefly dispatched another aircraft to Shannon, to complete the flight to Aruba. The male passenger, who was detained by Irish authorities, faces multiple charges in the incident.
